kitchen inspiration

Now when our garage is almost done (I will put up additional pictures tonight) I’m already starting to think about another project that I would love to complete soon – the Kitchen. It would be so great to have a beautiful, well planned, functioning kitchen. Aren’t these kitchen below beautiful? I love the white cabinets with the darker countertop. I would also love to put in wood floors in the kitchen, so we would get a better flow from the dining room – I think that would make it feel more open and large.

buttermilk scones

This is one of my favorite recipes for scones:

3 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup currants (optional)
1 tablespoon heavy cream, for brushing (optional)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda in a large bowl. Add butter and mix with your fingertips to a coarse meal. Add buttermilk and mix just until combined. Add currants. Transfer dough to a floured board and divide into 2 parts. Roll each to 3/4 inch thick rounds. Cut each round into 8 wedges and place slightly separated on a greased baking sheet. Brush the tops with the cream, and bake for 15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Serve warm, split in half with butter and marmalade. Enjoy!

piece of cake

Since I have lived in Denver for about 8 years now, I haven't kept up with the new TV personalities in Sweden. However, by browsing the Internet I came across a Swedish TV chef, Leila Lindholm, that recently published a new cookbook about baking, "A piece of cake". The pictures in the cookbook are amazing and by just looking at a sample of her recipes I instantly felt an urge to bake something. Mums!

garage - framing and walls

The construction workers are moving fast with the garage. After the foundation cured for a few days the crew started with the framing and the walls. In two days almost all framing is done and all four walls are up. Now, it's easy to picture the finished product. So far, we are very happy with the outcome.

By the end of Day 1

By the end of Day 2

By the end of Day 2 the framing for the roof - almost done

hike

On Saturday Rick, Freya and I went for a hike to Devils Head Fire Lookout tower near Castle Rock. It is a U.S. Forest Service fire lookout tower located in Douglas County, Colorado. The tower is accessed by hiking on the Devils Head National Recreation Trail. The original tower was built in 1912 on a large pinnacle of Pikes Peak granite and is used as a fire lookout point in the Pike National Forest. The view from the tower extends at least 100 miles in every direction on clear days.
